Oceanographic Museum of Monaco



Built on the side of the mythical rock of Monaco, the Oceanographic Museum created by Prince Albert I - the great-great-grandfather of H.S.H. Monte-Carlo Casino



It was built in 1863 by Charles Garnier, the architect of the Paris Opera. Its marble atrium, surrounded by 28 onyx Ionic columns, gives access to the Opera Hall (which is not open to the public), which is entirely decorated in red and gold, with bas-reliefs and sculptures.
